So I’m reading a book about the development of American nutrition 100 years ago for a class and it brought up the development of home economics at Cornell by two professors, Martha Van Rensselaer and Flora Rose. As an alum I was already familiar with these names (they have a building and a dorm named after them, respectively, and developed what’s now the Human Ecology department) but what I DIDN’T know until just now was that they were a long-term lesbian couple.
